What were you doing before joining H&S? I was working part time as a swimming instructor whilst completing my Bachelor of Science degree. I've always had a strong love of animals of every kind, so when a Hop & Scotch employee helped save the day when our dog, Oscar, somehow managed to lock himself in the car, I immediately jumped on Google, sent an email, and landed my dream job! The only downside about working at Hop & Scotch is that you never want to leave, so even though I now have other employment, I still juggle my schedule so I can work with the pooches at least once or twice a week!
Who are the lucky pups that have your attention at home? My big, beautiful boy, Oscar, is a rescue Kelpie X and, despite having some health troubles and getting on in years, he still acts like a big puppy! He's the light of my life! His favourite game is chasing swallows at the football oval and hanging out with his best bud, Cooper, our little Pugalier who never fails to make us laugh with his quirky, confused ways! He's never far from Oscar's side, nor too far from a tennis ball!
What is your favourite part about working at H&S? I love nothing more than seeing a once shy, timid dog, come out of its shell and grow into a confident, well socialised pup! Some of the transformations we see are truly incredible and it's so rewarding being able to help foster that change! Seeing them all play together never fails to make me smile!
What were you doing before joining H&S? Previous to starting at Hop & Scotch I had been working in the animal industry for many years, from working at a boarding kennel to living in South Africa working alongside big cats. I am currently in the final semester of my Zoology and Animal Science degree.
Who are the lucky pups that have your attention at home? I have 3 amazing dogs at home, and a catdog. I have Lucky the sweetest 17-year-old spoodle, who is still going strong, Bear a Border Collie X - he is the most handsome, Gracie the spoodle, who is a little princess, and Thor the cat who thinks he's a dog.
What is your favourite part about working at H&S? I love how excited all the dogs are to see you when you first begin your shift and just getting to pat and play with dogs for hours on end. The staff are also the nicest group and guys and gals.

Who are the lucky pups that have your attention at home? I have three dogs: Kirmet is a Chinese Crested hairless (or naked!) breed. He’s very clever and full of energy and I sometimes dye him green (like Kermit the Frog!) Sampson is 7 and a rescued whippet. He’s very sweet and is a level 3 in obedience. And Penny is a Cavalier who I am training as an assistance dog for someone living with Autism.

What were you doing before joining H&S? I grew up volunteering with the dogs and cats at the Animal Welfare League on the Gold Coast and loved it. After school I got my Certificate III in Animal Behaviour and Training. I got my foot in the door of the animal industry by working for Your Critter Sitter, a dog walking and home boarding business and loved every minute of it! My partner and I moved to Melbourne for his work and that’s how I ended up at Hop & Scotch and I’m so happy it has worked out this way!
Who are the lucky pups that have your attention at home? I have two dogs: Ace, a 2-year-old German Shepherd and Duke, a 6-year-old Jack Russell Terrier. Duke is our little rebel and attitude boy – he loves balls and having a good argument with you over them! Ace is a recent addition to the family and has become Duke’s best friend. They’re the perfect match. Ace is a gentle giant who loves belly rubs.
What is your favourite part about working at H&S? My favourite part is being part of an amazing team all doing what we love. Spending all day with our paw family is as good as it gets. And I can’t complain about the puppy kisses either!
What were you doing before joining H&S? Before joining Hop & Scotch I completed a Certificate III in Companion Animal Services and a dog behaviour course with Open Colleges Australia. I also worked at a dog daycare centre in the U.K and an animal shelter in New Zealand where I gained so much knowledge about animal behaviour and body language. Currently I spend a lot of my spare time volunteering at Second Chance Animal Rescue in Campbellfield and I am due to commence a course with the National Dog Trainers Federation in dog behaviour and training.

Who are the lucky pups that have your attention at home? I have two little rascals at home. Paddy, a Silk Yorkie/Shih tzu, and Max who's breed is unknown. They both have very different personalities but I love them both equally! I was very happy to give them a forever home!
What is your favourite thing about working at H&S? I love being a part of the Hop & Scotch team, the friendships made between team members and the dogs will last a lifetime. Each day is a different adventure and I absolutely love getting to know each of the dogs personalities and special traits.
What were you doing before joining H&S? I am currently studying my Certificate IV in Companion Animal Services. Who is the lucky pup that has your attention at home? I have Brian the Basset Hound. A not-so-little terror, he is a bulldozer on short legs! When's he's not tripping over his ears or trying to keep up with the big dogs Brian just enjoys a cuddle.
What is your favourite part about working at H&S? My passion has always been animals, especially dogs. I love being able to work with so many different breeds and learn about all their personalities. The environment is also amazing because of all the people who work here - everyone is so happy to be at work and it's great to see others enjoy what they do for a living!

What were you doing before you began H&S? I obtained my Bachelor of Business from Monash University. I always knew I wanted to start a business and, with a love of dogs and seeing the pet industry booming overseas, dog daycare seemed like an ideal thing to get into. Before Hop & Scotch grew to the two centres we have today, it was run out of my parents backyard. Needless to say, they were pretty happy when I moved out...
Who is the lucky pup that has your attention at home? I have a little guy called Tyko who is 10 years old. Early Hop & Scotch customers knew him as our mascot who sat on top of the reception desk at Blackburn on pat patrol. He freaked out quite a few people who assumed he was a soft toy - until he moved!
What is your favourite part about working at H&S? I love the team that has been built over several years and the friendships formed - not only with the staff, but with customers too. And who wouldn't want to spend their days around dogs? The business side of me also loves the challenge of running Hop & Scotch day to day and helping it grow.
What were you doing before joining H&S? Other than dog walking or pet sitting for friends and family when I was younger, I first properly started working with animals at Market Place Pets in Croydon shortly after high school. I enjoyed being the main caregiver to all animals on site and I knew working with animals was something I was passionate about. I began to research career options, Vet Nursing being my top pick but after really looking into it and signing up for volunteer work, I wasn't sure that I could deal with the sad side of the job! Then I found Hop & Scotch, which was operating out of Michael’s home at the time. Poor Michael – I bombarded him with emails and calls until I got the job and here I am more than 5 years later!
Who is the lucky pup that has your attention at home? I have a 6-year-old Pugalier named Burley. He's a gentle boy, he likes children and hanging out with dogs of all sizes and personalities. He has been attending Hop & Scotch for 5 years and has made some great friends. He is very much a lap dog and loves a cuddle. He has taken on the role of a guard dog at home and likes to loudly tell us if there's a stranger near our house. I also have a 1-year-old Pugalier named Button. She is likes to zoom around like a rocket. Tug of war and fetch are her favourite games. She loves to play with other dogs and is very excited to meet new people. She has a face-licking obsession and has no idea what personal space is, but we love her cuddles and kisses!
What is your favourite part about working at H&S? Working with the dogs, working with their owners and working with the team at Hop & Scotch has made me feel incredibly lucky. I've met the most wonderful people and puppies over my years and have made friends for life! Another great part of my job and when I'm at my happiest is when I'm able to watch my own dogs have the time of their lives – playing, making new friends & learning during their day at Hop & Scotch.
What were you doing before joining H&S? Since I was 3 years old I knew I wanted to work with animals. After I finished my Bachelor of Science with a focus on Zoology and Conservation Biology, I went on to volunteering with various shelters and animal hospitals, which lead me to animal rescues and care. I now operate a volunteer wildlife shelter, and share my home with many different critters from wombats to possums.

What is your favourite part about working at H&S? The dogs of course! I love spending my days playing with all breeds of dogs, getting to know their different personalities, having lots of cuddles and also knowing that at the end of the afternoon they are exhausted from having the best day and get to go home where they are loved and cared for!
